It is a spin-off of Arrow, existing in the same fictional universe known as the Arrowverse. It is based on the Barry Allen incarnation of DC Comics character the Flash, a costumed superhero crime-fighter with the power to move at superhuman speeds. Flawed, but still awesome. The Flash is an American superhero television series developed by Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg, and Geoff Johns, airing on The CW. In the end, it was an enjoyable experience, if you were able to ignore the actual game, just like in the first one. Gearing system was streamlined, but still tedious. That, and in other boss fights, I just put it on easy because it was obvious how to defeat the enemy- all you had to do was press the same 3 commands over and over again for a fucking hour. And he has a fucking endless supply of potions. You have to run in circles and do a basic attack every minute or so. Why the cooldown on healing and mana cost? Dueling the Arishok is probably the worst boss fight ever made. Why can't spiders be knocked back? Also, the chain knockdowns by random enemies that can peace your characters within a few basic attacks is something they should seriously have reconsidered. Any potions but health mana stamina or the occasional weapon poison can be completely ignored. A lot of talents that really don't do shit. There are lot of abilities that just don't work in situations where you feel like they should. The combat is just not that well-designed. (For an example of a game where combat over storytelling is the major focus I would point to WoW, just off the top of my head) Again, the focus in Dragon Age has never been the combat. I understand why this happened- they spent so much time on the narrative and made it so good, the just didn't have the time/budget to develop the maps and combat. It's fun in the beginning, but when you're confronted with basically the same three or four types of enemies in the same three or fours places, it begins to feel like a chore to get to the money shots - the dialogue and the narrative elements. That was even more true in DA2 than it was in DA1, except this time is was flashier and more awesome looking. I would describe its design as perfunctory. Dragon Age has never been about the awesome combat system. That that's even possible is an achievement by itself. The system is actually quite complex, but after a few minutes you know exactly how to express yourself as Hawke in the way you want. DA2 did a great job presenting that portrait. Dragon Age as a series is a portrait of an entire world and peoples that live in it. Penny Arcade was right when they said that you would be wrong to think that Dragon Age is about "the Grey Wardens" just as you would have been wrong to say that Mass Effect was about "the Spectres". Compare that to the side quests in almost every other RPG, and especially in DA1, where it is usually the exact opposite. The decision paid off because you actually cared about all of them and understood how they related, and what your choices meant. I think people were expecting sort of the "Empire Strikes Back" but I thought it was risky decision to instead of go the typical obvious route for "part 2" of a series, they decided to take a lot of different, interesting stories all at once. The character development is richer than I've seen in pretty much any other game. Normally companion quests are fun, but are relegated to side notes in the overall progress of the games story. Dragon Age was a good game, but your opinion of it depends wildly on what you give a shit about.ĭA2 actually was a triumph in RPG storytelling.
